What is Stainless Steel 410?
Stainless Steel 410 (UNS S41000 / Werkstoff Nr. 1.4006) is a general-purpose martensitic stainless steel containing 12% chromium. It is the most widely used grade in the martensitic family, known for its excellent combination of high strength, hardness, good corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. SS 410 is magnetic in all conditions and can be heat-treated to achieve a wide range of mechanical properties.

What is Stainless Steel 410S?
Stainless Steel 410S (UNS S41008 / Werkstoff Nr. 1.4000) is a low-carbon, non-hardening modification of SS 410. The reduced carbon content, combined with small additions of Titanium and/or Niobium, minimizes austenite formation at high temperatures, which restricts the alloy’s ability to harden. This makes SS 410S soft, ductile, and highly weldable — ideal for applications where welding is required without risk of cracking.
SS 410S is completely ferritic in the annealed condition, offering good oxidation resistance, adequate corrosion resistance, and improved weldability compared to standard SS 410. - Annealing: 816–899°C, furnace cool to 593°C, then air cool
- Hardening: 927–1010°C, followed by air cooling or oil quenching
- Tempering: 593–760°C for 1–4 hours
- Stress Relieving & Process Annealing also available
Note: SS 410S is non-hardening and does not respond to heat treatment in the same way.
